ACCOUNTANT (Part-Time)

Salary : $21.03 per hour

Opening: There is one part-time 62.5% (25 hours per week) opening with the Yakima County Treasurer’s Office. Performs professional level budgeting and revenue management for the Yakima County general fund. This recruitment may be used to fill part-time vacancies which may occur within 90 days of the posted closing date.

Essential Job Functions:
Tracks, budgets, and analyzes major revenues of the County. Prepares audit request to the State Department of Revenue for possible recovery of revenues.

Prepares and/or contributes in the preparation of a variety of complex reports, statements and documents for major County or agency (Federal, State and Local) financial reports for outside districts, and the Treasurer’s Office annual report. Assumes responsibility for ensuring compliance with the General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.

Reviews current legislative bills and State fiscal notes for financial impact. Ensures compliance with laws, rules, and regulation. Assist State Auditor’s staff by compiling requested information as it relates to revenue.

Audits property tax payment documentation, including researching, evaluating and verifying financial transactions for appropriateness and amount of qualified refund if required.

Other Job Functions: Performs other accounting duties and duties of other accountants as needed.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Duties are performed primarily in an office setting. The position requires stooping, kneeling, crouching reaching, standing, mobility, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Rated as sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting, most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Equipment Operated: Computer and software (MS Office group, Ascend, Cayenta, Tax Tools), printer, telephone, calculator, photocopier, scanner, fax machine. All duties require the use of some or all office equipment listed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience and Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or related plus 1 year
professional level accounting experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides
knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Bachelor’s Degree and one
year experience is preferred over equivalency.

Preferred:
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel/Spreadsheet computer programs
Auditing experience
One year Governmental Accounting experience

Required:
Successful completion of a criminal history background check.

This is a Yakima County Courthouse Master Contract Bargaining Unit position. As a condition of employment you are
required to become a member of the Unit or pay representation fees per the negotiated contract.
