Salary: $2,472.00 per month, plus benefits

Opening: There is one opening with the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, Accounts Payable Division. This position audits and approves all county/agency expense payments. Ensures proper accounting and legal requirements are met based on BARS standards. Provides advice and direction to data entry personnel from all county departments. Provides input in implementation of county expense policies. This recruitment could be used to fill similar full-time jobs that occur within 90 days of the closing date of this posting.

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of past experience and training. Accounting exercises may be required. Applicants claiming veteran’s preference eligibility will be required to complete the Application for Veterans’ Preference Form.

Essential Job Functions:
Audit and approve all invoices for payment for all county and agency funds.

Generate warrants to pay all county vendors semi-monthly or upon demand. Produce documents for Commissioner authorization. Sort and attach remittance advice to warrants. Insert warrants into envelopes for mailing.

Prepare and transmit state sales and use tax to Dept of Revenue on a monthly basis.

Other duties as required such as: Generate Accounts Payable Summary Reports, Recording deposit, Licensing deposit, Assisting other divisions, etc.

Working/Conditions Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class range typically require: fingering, grasping, feeling, hearing, talking, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Equipment Operated:
Telephone, 10-Key, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, Voice Mail, Computer, Printer and Scanner.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: (Upon entry)
Basic mathematics and accounting theories and principles; General knowledge of government accounting methods; Data processing system and methods for input; Double entry bookkeeping; Modern office procedures and phone etiquette; Customer relations and team building concepts.

Skills (and abilities) in: (Upon entry)
Reviewing and verifying accounting information and performing calculations; Tracking account activities; Preparing financial spreadsheets and word processing documents; Organization, prioritization and paying attention to detail and accuracy; Making responsible decisions in accordance with state requirements and county policies; Establishing effective interpersonal working relationships with co-workers, other agencies and the general public; Multi-tasking and working effectively with interruptions; Communicating and expressing ideas effectively, orally and in writing sufficient to convey required remedies to payment requirement deficiencies.

Experience and Training: High School Diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years experience in the Accounting field or related including one year Accounts Payable or Contract experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Cayenta Financial System experience
Governmental Accounting experience
AA Degree in Accounting/Bookkeeping
One year Accounts Payable or Contract experience
