Opening: There is one part time opening in the Public Services Department. This position performs routine accounting support activities involving receiving, reviewing, processing and entering into a computer system a variety of documents, inventory, deposits, and payments for financial transactions. This recruitment may be used to fill other Financial Technician positions within 90 days of the closing of this recruitment

Essential Job Functions:
Processes a variety of financial documents, performing routine accounts payable/accounts receivable activities which apply job cost codes to invoices/statements including: determining codes, verifying payments.

Enters financial data into computer systems such as payments, payroll, invoices, utility meter readings, records materials charged out into a Financial Management System and “runs the batch”, creating routine reports or runs reports per schedule. Processes payments for equipment repair and maintenance, supplies and other inventory.

Performs cashiering activities such as accepting payments, utility payments, issuing receipts, balancing cash drawer, and preparing transmittals for deposit with Treasurer.

Annually scans, and tags, assets for the Fixed Asset Management System. Places items in inventory or arranges accurate tracking through established internal accounting procedures. Biennially conducts a physical inventory.

Performs other duties as required such as receiving, sorting, photocopying and filing invoices, reception service.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Duties are performed primarily in an office setting. Position requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, sanding, mobility, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. This position is rated as Light work: up to 20 pounds of force frequently or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Basic accounting theories and principles; general knowledge of warehousing/stocking principles and procedures; accounting software programs; basic contract terminology; basic mathematics; office practices; customer service techniques; phone etiquette; and safety precautions.

Skills (and abilities) in:
Reviewing and verifying accounting information; preparing and processing documents related to inventory control; preparing and processing documents related to assignment area function; performing a variety of calculations; paying attention to detail and accuracy; using office equipment such as phones, copiers, calculators and fax machines; using computers and related software applications; establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public; and communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Experience & Training: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma or GED and eighteen (18) months general office support experience, including at least six (6) months accounting or warehouse inventory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Note: This is a Yakima County Public Services Department Clerical, Technical & Professional (CTP) Employees Group Bargaining Unit Position. As a condition of employment you are required to become a member of the Bargaining Unit or pay representation fees per the negotiated contract.
