Debt

Debt Portfolio

The Yakima County Treasurer's Office actively manages a debt portfolio (PDF) of approximately $440 million.  Some of this debt was issued by Yakima County itself, but most of it has been issued by the taxing and assessment districts in the County for which we are their Treasurer.

As debt is being issued, the Treasurer's staff works with the bond counsel and underwriters to supply information, then to review and comment on the various legal documents being presented.

Once debt has been issued, the Treasurer's staff tracks the debt service schedules and makes sure the issuing entity has sufficient cash to make the payment.  These debt service payments are then made by the Treasurer from funds set aside by the entity for this purpose.

The Yakima County Treasurer's Office actively manages debt for:
  • Yakima County
  • 14 School Districts
  •  5 Fire Districts
  •  6 Miscellaneous Districts

Supporting Investments in Economic Diversification (SIED)

The Yakima County Treasurer's Office actively manages approximately $7.3 million portfolio on behalf of the Supporting Investments in Economic Diversification fund.  The Board of Yakima County Commissioners established the fund, and an advisory board, to account for sales tax revenue received under RCW 82.14.370 for public facilities in rural counties.  The SIED Board evaluates all applications and makes recommendations to the County Commissioners for the issuance of grants and/or loans for economic development projects to public agencies.
