Civil Division (Corporate Counsel)

The Civil Division of the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, also known as Corporate Counsel, serves as the legal advisor to Yakima County government. Our attorneys provide legal representation and counsel to the Yakima County Board of Commissioners, elected officials, and county departments to ensure the county’s operations comply with state and federal law.

Our Work Includes:

  • Advising county departments, elected officials, and law enforcement agencies on legal matters

  • Drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, and interlocal agreements

  • Providing representation in civil litigation involving Yakima County

  • Handling land use, zoning, and environmental law issues

  • Assisting with labor and employment matters

  • Responding to public records requests and ensuring compliance with disclosure laws

  • Providing legal guidance on risk management and liability issues

The Civil Division’s mission is to protect the interests of Yakima County, minimize legal risks, and support the delivery of effective public services. By offering sound legal advice and representation, we help ensure that county government operates with integrity, accountability, and in service of the community.

Public Disclosure Requests

All Public records are governed by the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). 

The Public Records Act pertains to all records prepared, owned, used, or retained by any department or office of Yakima County government, excluding the Yakima County Courts.

Yakima County Court records are governed by Washington State Court General Rules (GR31 and GR31.1).

Yakima County Jail records are governed by Washington State RCW 70.48.100
