Background
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is launching a process to modernize statutory law
addressing the control of sexually transmitted diseases (RCW 70.24) with the primary goals of
reducing HIV-related stigma, ending exceptionalism with respect to HIV, and addressing HIV
exposure laws. These laws were last updated nearly 30 years ago, in 1988.
As part of this process, DOH will be gathering stakeholder input through meetings to be held in
various locations throughout the state. This is an opportunity for local health care providers, other
health and human service providers, affected populations, and any other interested parties to provide
input at the front end of the process. Please consider attending or sending a designee on behalf of your
organization.
If you have any questions regarding the process or the meeting, please contact Tamara Jones, End
AIDS Washington Policy and Systems Change Coordinator (tamara.jones@doh.wa.gov; telephone
