Boil Water Advisory Update

Six informational water samples were collected on Wednesday August 9th and results from one of the samples was unsatisfactory.  The unsatisfactory sample was not positive for E. coli but was positive for coliform bacteria.  Coliform bacteria are unlikely to cause illness, but their presence in drinking water indicates that disease-causing organisms (such as E. coli) could be in the water.  The unsatisfactory sample was in the same area as the previous unsatisfactory samples.

The boil water advisory for Zone 2a of the Terrace Heights Water System remains in effect.  The boil water notice for Zone 2a is now expected to last until at least the middle of next week.  Yakima County staff continues to investigate the issue and take samples as they try to pinpoint the cause as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, you may call 509-574-2300.

Boil Water Advisory Update

Results from the water samples collected on Tuesday August 8th were all satisfactory.  Four samples were collected in total.  Yakima County is collecting additional samples today.  If the results from today’s samples are also satisfactory, then the County will reduce chlorine levels and take two additional sets of samples once chlorine levels are back to normal prior to lifting the boil water advisory.

One private backflow assembly on an underground sprinkler system was found to be not working properly.  This line was closed off until the assembly could be repaired.  It is not known if this was the cause of the unsatisfactory samples.

The boil water advisory for Zone 2a of the Terrace Heights Water System remains in effect.  The boil water notice for Zone 2a is expected to last until at least the first of next week.

Boil Water Advisory Update

The boil water advisory for Zone 2a of the Terrace Heights Water System remains in effect.  The boil water notice for Zone 2a is expected to last until at least the first of next week.

Three informational water samples were collected on Monday August 7th and results from one of the three samples was unsatisfactory.  The unsatisfactory sample was not positive for E. coli but was positive for coliform bacteria.  Coliform bacteria are unlikely to cause illness, but their presence in drinking water indicates that disease-causing organisms (such as E. coli) could be in the water.  Yakima County collected additional coliform samples on Tuesday August 8th to better define the extent and possible source of the bacteria.  Results from these samples will be received later today (August 9th) and noted on the website.  Yakima County is working with the Washington State Department of Health and meeting with property owners in the area to help determine the possible source of bacteria.

Customers in Zone 2a are asked to flush water from each faucet for approximately 5 minutes to bring chlorinated water to all parts of their household plumbing.  If they are aware of any connections between the domestic water system and their irrigation system, a swimming pool, or any other source of non-potable water they are asked to contact Yakima County Public Services so the connection can be checked.

Yakima County will be flushing waterlines in the area again today (August 9th).  The flushing may cause some discoloration of water due to iron and manganese deposits within the waterlines.  If this occurs, customers can flush water from a hose bib or faucet until the water runs clear.  Iron and manganese are not a health concern.

Boil Water Advisory Update

The boil water advisory for Zone 2a of the Terrace Heights Water System is still in effect.  Chlorine levels have been increased since last week.  Informational water samples were collected on Monday August 7th and results will be available later today and posted on the website.  If results are satisfactory, Yakima County will begin reducing chlorine levels.  Additional samples will be collected once chlorine levels are reduced to normal operating levels.

Customers in Zone 2a are asked to flush water from each faucet for approximately 5 minutes to bring chlorinated water to all parts of their household plumbing.  If they are aware of any connections between the domestic water system and their irrigation system, a swimming pool, or any other source of non-potable water they are asked to contact Yakima County Public Services so the connection can be checked for cross connections.
