Payment Information
Payment Instructions
- Make checks payable to “Yakima County Treasurer".
- Taxes are payable in U.S. currency and/or check, money order, cashier’s check, electronic check, credit card, or debit card.
- Two party checks will not be accepted.
- Payments are sorted by Federal Postmark (RCW 1.12.070) to determine the payment date for mailed payments. Please check with your local post office for collection hours to be sure your payment will be postmarked timely. Due to recent postal changes, Federal postmarks and delivery can be delayed; please mail early to avoid interest and penalty charges.
- To receive proper credit, detach coupon and include with payment.

- By Mail - return envelopes provided
- Drive-Thru - located at 217 N. 1st St. in the parking lot on the north side of the Courthouse. Cash and Check only. Must have your property tax statement.
- In Person -
- Credit/debit cards are accepted from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (fee required - see below).
- Secure drop boxes - one located outside the main entrance to the Courthouse and a new drive-up drop box located across from the Courthouse on the north side of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd available 24/7.
- Online - E-check or credit/debit card (fee required - see below).
- Credit/debit card by phone - 866-888-0989 {fee required - see below). Stay on the line for a confirmation number.
- We cannot personally accept payments over the phone when you call our office.
Payment Fees for E-Check and Credit/Debit Cards
When using e-check or credit/debit card to make payment you will incur a third-party convenience fee (Yakima County receives none of this convenience fee). Currently those fees are as follows:
- E-check - $2.00 fee per transaction (shopping cart feature of single or multiple parcels).
- Credit card fees are 2.35% of the amount you are paying with a minimum of $2.00.
- Visa Personal Debit is $3.95.
- MasterCard Personal Debit is 2.35% of the amount you are paying with a minimum of $2.00.
Delinquent Accounts
Property taxes become delinquent May 1st for first-half and November 1st for second-half:
- Interest accrues at 0.75% per month on the current year taxes for residential real property with four or fewer units per taxable parcel on the full year amount of taxes and/or assessments owing. Prior years taxes and all other parcels will accrue interest at 1% per month.
- Penalty of 3% will be assessed on June 1st and an 8% penalty is assessed on December 1st for all residential real property with greater than four units per taxable parcel and all personal property parcels.
- All real property and personal property taxes where the current year's taxes are more than $50 may be paid in half with any applicable interest only through October 30th; on October 31st, those taxes are due in full. All other personal property taxes where current year's taxes are less than $50, must have 1st half paid by April 30th to avoid costs.
Real property foreclosure begins May 1st for real property taxes/assessments delinquent three or more years. Collection fees will be assessed beginning January 1st.
Personal property distraint begins May 1st for first-half and November 1st for second-half. Collection fees are assessed starting on those dates.
Paying Under Protest
To preserve your right to seek a court ordered refund, payment under protest must be in writing and included with your property tax payment (RCW 84.68.020 and WAC 458-18-215).
Bank Returned Items
- A $30 service fee is charged for all bank returned items.
- Repayment of these returns must be by certified funds and include applicable interest, penalty and costs.
