Orobanche cumana, Sunflower Broomrape , the first find in North America, was found in Yakima County. It was added to the Washington State Noxious Weed Class A list on October 21, 2025.  If you see this plant, do not touch it.  Please contact Yakima County Noxious Weed Board and let us remove it (at no cost to the landowner).   Sunflower Broomrape is a National and International pest and must be removed properly to ensure contaminated soil and vegetation do not spread beyond the point found.  It grows as a parasite on sunflowers. It has been found to affect tomatoes and some wormwoods, eggplants and tobacco in central and Southern Europe.  If you have seen this plant, please call (509) 574-2180  Or (509)-945-3357.
