There are approximately 110 facilities throughout the county with a total of 155 “pools” or water bodies of various kinds to oversee. This program issues operating permits, conducts field inspections, and evaluates performance to assure public health and safety standards are being maintained.
Field Inspections
During field inspections:
- Chemical testing is used to evaluate water quality
- Water monitoring and record keeping is reviewed
- Facility maintenance is evaluated
- Education materials are provided
- Compliance/enforcement of regulations is discussed as necessary
New Construction, Remodels, and Repairs
Water recreation facility plans must be reviewed and approved by the Washington State Department of Health prior to new construction, remodels, or repairs. This includes changing a drain cover, replacing a pump, swapping a disinfection system, or replacing a filter, unless replacing with a component of the same make and model number.
