The Victim/Witness Assistance Unit of the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office provides guidance, advocacy, and resources to crime victims and witnesses as they navigate the criminal justice process.
Our Unit Provides:
Assistance to victims and witnesses in felony criminal cases
Basic crisis intervention and emotional support
Referral information about community resources and other available agencies
Case updates, including hearing dates, trial dates, sentencing hearings, and case resolutions
Scheduling and coordination of testimony for pretrial and trial hearings
Transportation and travel assistance for witnesses appearing in court
Support to prosecutors in preparing cases
Restitution determinations in criminal cases
Assistance to law enforcement and Child Protective Services in investigating crimes against children
Training for law enforcement and Child Protective Services on crimes against children
Ongoing support for child victims and witnesses during investigations and trials
Our mission is to ensure that victims and witnesses are treated with dignity and respect, while receiving the support they need to participate in the justice system.
